Day 24, Re-Ordering

Re-Ordering.
It should be encouraged. Defacing books.
A few blank pages left at the end
For you to fill flyleaves with dirty secrets,
A new ending. “This was good.” “This was crap,”
Then pass it on, in a library where pens
Are allowed, lines scratched amid graffiti,
Now and then making poems from potboilers,
If you knew where to look, a chance for truth
To emerge at last: “Why is D’Arcy hot?”

Or let the chavs and wags and track suit boys
In Waterstones, fill the shelves marked classics
With the Hungry Caterpillar and toys,
Hear them laugh the laugh that lasts today
Watch them misspell, on end papers, their names.
