The View from this Chair
i.m. Anne Valerie Heyworth d. 21st. January 2012
Straight ahead bebeath the non-working heater
is the glass circle of the coffee-table-top
decked with my snap'em camera, box of sympathy
cards, and two photo-frames: Gang Show Long Service
beside the wedding photo of herself Anne liked so.
Flickering and warbling to its left are
windows to the world - our Victorian avenue
cropped from earlier golf links once a farm,
and wide-screen goggle-box where last year's
Arab Spring sprang more dramatic than any soap.
Of course for me there are boxes of books: saffron-
shrieking skins cuddling poetry titles underneath
Anne's poem painted with her life, her smile self-fulfilled
on that September day 2010 when Damian and Alison
joined in matrimony - Anne's boy become such a man.
(c) C.J. Heyworth April 2012.
Anne Heyworth was mother of Damian and the late Rebecca (d.1985),
and wife of Christopher James Heyworth.

Line 1 should read "...beneath...": sack the proofreader!
Moving commemorative words and I love the description of:
"...saffron-
shrieking skins cuddling poetry titles..."

I loved that image as well. This is really heartfelt stuff. Be great to see you back at an event sometime Chris- always nice to have more strong poets for the balance.
Great poem.
Very kind of you, fellahs.
Oh how I miss Anne's chilly feet warming themselves on mine.
